The Lowdown

Almere Weerwater Run is an annual road race held each June around the Weerwater, the artificial lake at the heart of Almere Stad in Flevoland, Netherlands. The event offers a 15-kilometer flagship distance, a 10-kilometer race, and the 5-kilometer Rondje Weerwater, plus a 1-kilometer Kids Run for children ages 6 to 12. All distances start on Meerensteinkade; the 15K, 10K, and 5K finish on the Esplanade, where the flat, fully paved course along the lakeshore and through Almere's green parkland draws a family-friendly local crowd. First run as the Almere City Run, the event was sponsored by Yanmar as the Yanmar Almere City Run in 2023 and 2024, then rebranded to Almere Weerwater Run in 2025 with Skechers as shoe partner, so this record uses the sponsor-neutral name. The race supports KWF Kankerbestrijding (the Dutch Cancer Society) through its Ren tegen Kanker fundraising program; the 2025 edition drew roughly 2,800 runners and raised more than EUR 20,000 for cancer research. Organized by Golazo Events, the race has not yet announced its exact 2027 date; based on the event's mid-June Sunday pattern in 2024-2026, the next edition is projected for June 13, 2027.
