The Bay of Fundy International Marathon is a point-to-point road race that starts and finishes in Lubec, Maine and crosses the US-Canada border twice during the run, taking runners onto Campobello Island in New Brunswick, Canada. First held in 2013, the race begins at West Quoddy Head Light — the easternmost point in the continental United States — crosses the Franklin Delano Roosevelt Memorial Bridge into Canada, passes Roosevelt Campobello International Park, turns around near the Head Harbour Lightstation (East Quoddy Head Light), and returns across the bridge to finish on Water Street in Lubec. The rolling coastal course climbs about 1,600 feet over its 26.2 miles, never rising more than 200 feet above sea level, and is certified by both USATF and Athletics Canada as a Boston Marathon qualifier. A half marathon and 10K run alongside the marathon on the same morning. Because the course crosses an international border, every runner must complete in-person passport clearance with both Canada Border Services and US Customs and Border Protection on the Friday or Saturday before race day; race bibs only serve as border documentation during the event itself. Race weekend also includes a shakeout run, a carb-loading dinner benefiting the Campobello Travel Club, and a street fair on Water Street after the race. Lubec's small-town setting and lighthouse scenery have helped the race earn recognition as one of Maine's most scenic marathons.
