Belgrade Marathon
The Lowdown
The Belgrade Marathon is Serbia's biggest sporting event and one of the most energetic marathons in Southeastern Europe, now entering its 39th edition. The two-lap course starts in the historic city center near Republic Square and immediately delivers dramatic scenery — crossing into the flat terrain of New Belgrade along the Sava River with views of the imposing Kalemegdan Fortress perched at the confluence of the Sava and Danube rivers. The route passes the monumental Temple of Saint Sava — one of the largest Orthodox churches in the world — and traverses both the historic old city and modern New Belgrade's wide boulevards. With around 1,300 marathon finishers but 13,000 total participants across all distances, the two-day race weekend (10K on Saturday, marathon and half marathon on Sunday) creates a genuine citywide celebration. Entry fees are remarkably affordable at 40-70 EUR depending on registration timing, making Belgrade one of the best-value marathon destinations in Europe. April temperatures of 8-18°C provide comfortable racing conditions, and the city's legendary nightlife, hearty Serbian cuisine, and warm Balkan hospitality make the post-race celebration as memorable as the race itself.
