Brighton Marathon
The Lowdown
The Brighton Marathon has established itself as one of the UK's most popular spring marathons since its inception in 2010, now proudly managed by London Marathon Events. The course starts at Preston Park and sweeps through the vibrant streets of Brighton and Hove before hugging the stunning Sussex coastline for much of the route. Runners pass the extravagant Royal Pavilion, the iconic Brighton Pier, and the bustling marina before heading west along the seafront to Hove Lagoon and Shoreham Power Station. The toughest hills come between miles 14 and 18, cresting at around 162 meters, but the reward is a long, crowd-lined descent back into Brighton for a euphoric seafront finish. With over 11,000 marathon runners, enthusiastic community support, and the salty sea breeze as a constant companion, Brighton delivers a unique blend of challenging terrain and seaside celebration. The race regularly sells out, and charity entries through partner organizations offer an alternative path to the start line. April temperatures around 8-13°C provide ideal racing conditions for those chasing a personal best along England's south coast.
