Bucharest Marathon
The Lowdown
The Bucharest Marathon is Romania's largest and flagship road race, held every October since 2008 and recognized as a World Athletics Bronze Label event (the companion Bucharest International Half Marathon holds a full World Athletics Label). It is currently title-sponsored as the Raiffeisen Bank Bucharest City Marathon. The AIMS/IAAF-certified, fully paved course starts on Boulevard Libertatii at Izvor Park and finishes at Constitution Square (Piata Constitutiei), directly in front of the Palace of the Parliament, the largest building in Europe. The generally flat route runs through tree-lined central, eastern, and southeastern Bucharest boulevards, passing landmarks including the Palace of the Parliament, the Arch of Triumph, and the Romanian Athenaeum, and draws over 25,000 runners from 50+ countries across the full race weekend (marathon, half marathon, 10K, relay, fun race, and kids' races).
