Chickamauga Battlefield Marathon
The Lowdown
The Chickamauga Battlefield Marathon has run through the Chickamauga & Chattanooga National Military Park in northwest Georgia since 1980, making it one of the longest-running marathons in the American Southeast. Produced by the Chattanooga Track Club, the race winds runners through the 9,000-acre Civil War battlefield on a scenic, slightly rolling paved course past historical monuments and wildlife, sharing its first 12 miles with the half marathon before full marathoners complete a second loop through the park. The USATF-certified course (#GA25076WC) qualifies finishers to submit results to the Boston Athletic Association, and the race carries a 6.5-hour time limit. Half and full marathon entries are capped at 1,500 combined runners with no race-day registration, reflecting an agreement with the National Park Service to protect the historic grounds. The event was named the Best Marathon in Georgia in 2025 and serves as the 2026 RRCA Georgia State Marathon Championship race, with a companion 5K and Junior Marathon also held on race weekend.
