Delaware Marathon
The Lowdown
The Delaware Marathon is Wilmington, Delaware's Boston-qualifying marathon, first run in 2004 as the Coventry Health Care Delaware Marathon and now presented sponsor-neutral as part of Corrigan Sports' Delaware Running Festival weekend alongside a half marathon, 10K, and 5K. The marathon starts and finishes at Tubman-Garrett Riverfront Park; the first 13 miles cross Brandywine Park along the Brandywine River, historic Wilmington neighborhoods, the century-old tower in Rockford Park, and downtown's Rodney Square, while the back half follows the Jack Markell Trail out toward New Castle and back. The USATF-certified course carries roughly 1,025 feet of rolling-hill climbing, including a long gradual stretch nicknamed 'Monkey Hill,' before flattening out over its closing miles. The field is capped at 1,000 marathon finishers, with a seven-hour time limit and a minimum age of 13.
