Dusseldorf Marathon
The Lowdown
The Dusseldorf Marathon is an annual road marathon in Dusseldorf, Germany, held each spring since 2003 (with a 2020 cancellation and a 2021-to-2022 postponement during the COVID-19 pandemic). The 42.195 km course starts on Joseph-Beuys-Ufer along the Rhine, heads north through Pempelfort, Golzheim, and the Nordpark before crossing the Oberkassel Bridge onto the river's west bank for a loop through Oberkassel (the half-marathon mark falls here, at 21.0975 km), then returns east across the bridge to run through the Altstadt, the Konigsallee boulevard, and the Media Harbour before finishing at the Unteres Rheinwerft in the historic city centre. The route is largely flat aside from the bridge crossings. Metro Group was the race's longtime title sponsor before Uniper took over starting with the 2022 edition; given how recent that switch is, the sponsor-neutral 'Dusseldorf Marathon' is used here rather than 'Uniper Dusseldorf Marathon,' with the sponsorship noted for context. A half marathon (starting 08:00 in three waves) and a marathon relay run alongside the marathon on race day, and the day before brings children's races (Bambini Cup, Kids Cup Mini and Maxi) plus a free 5K shake-out run. More than 10,000 runners take part across all distances each year. The 2026 edition was held April 26, 2026; the next edition is confirmed for Sunday, April 18, 2027, with online registration open through Datasport.
