Great Scottish Run
The Lowdown
The Great Scottish Run is Scotland's biggest mass-participation running event, held every October in Glasgow and rated a World Athletics Gold Label road race. It pairs a half marathon with a 10K on the same morning: both start on St Vincent Street in the city centre and finish together on Glasgow Green. The half marathon covers roughly six hilly miles through Pollok Park and Bellahouston Park before a mostly downhill and flat final five miles, while the 10K takes a shorter route past the Clyde Arc, the Finnieston Crane, and the SEC Hydro. The half marathon alone draws more than 15,000 runners each year, with thousands more in the 10K, cheered on by bagpipers, live bands, and charity supporters along the course, and the event airs live on BBC television. The race is currently title-sponsored by AJ Bell, having previously carried the Bank of Scotland name, but is widely known simply as the Great Scottish Run. Junior and Mini races for children round out the weekend.
