The Lowdown

The Guthrie Wineglass Marathon is the second-largest marathon in New York State and a favorite among Boston Marathon hopefuls. The point-to-point course runs from Bath, NY to Corning, NY through the Southern Finger Lakes, dropping a gentle net downhill of roughly 200 feet along the Cohocton and Chemung river valleys en route to a scenic finish on Historic Market Street in Corning's Gaffer District, named for the city's glassmaking heritage. Every finisher receives a hand-crafted glass finisher medal made by a local Corning glass artisan, with a new design each year, plus a champagne toast at the finish line. Named a top destination and must-do marathon by Livestrong, Active Times, and others, Wineglass is a fast, flat, and reliable course for a PR, a Boston Qualifying time, or a first marathon. (Course time limit: 6.5 hours.)

A Boston Marathon Qualifier: net downhill (~200 ft over 26.2 miles) is well within Boston's 1,500-foot adjustment limit, so times count toward BQ with no adjustment

Full marathon field capped at approximately 2,800 runners; 1,816 marathon finishers in 2024

First run in 1981; 2026 marks the 45th running

Finisher medal is a hand-blown glass piece made by a local Corning glass artisan, a nod to the city's Corning Museum of Glass heritage
