Jackson Hole Marathon
The Lowdown
The Jackson Hole Marathon is a USATF-sanctioned road marathon presented by the Jackson Hole Chamber of Commerce and the Jackson Hole Racing Company, held every September in Jackson, Wyoming. The 26.2-mile course starts at the historic elk antler arches on Jackson Town Square, passes the National Elk Refuge, winds through neighborhoods and community pathways, traverses the South Park Loop with views across the Jackson Hole Valley, crosses the Snake River near mile 17, and follows pathways through Wilson before finishing at the base of the Teton Range at the elk antler arch in Teton Village. Roughly 99.6% of the route is run on paved roads and pathways, with the final tenth of a mile on grass. The race is cupless, so runners must carry a bottle, collapsible cup, or hydration bladder to refill at aid stations, and it shares race weekend with the Hole Half Marathon and Quarter Marathon, plus a post-race Oktoberfest celebration in Teton Village. High-altitude running (Jackson sits around 6,200 feet) is a defining challenge of the course. A separate, unaffiliated event called the Jackson Hole Half Marathon (net-downhill, Teton Village to downtown Jackson) also uses the Jackson Hole name but does not offer a full marathon distance; this record covers only the Jackson Hole Chamber of Commerce marathon.
