The Lowdown

The Jim Thorpe Area Running Festival is a two-day race weekend in the Poconos town of Jim Thorpe, Pennsylvania. The marathon on Sunday is a point-to-point course on the D&L and Lehigh Gorge rail trails with a steady 0.5% to 1% downgrade, about 700 feet (213 m) net downhill, and the organizer bills it as one of the fastest Boston qualifiers on the East Coast. Runners return to the start by scenic train ride or shuttle bus. On Saturday the festival offers a half marathon, an out-and-back on a flat rail trail into Lehigh Gorge State Park, and a 7-miler that covers the final 7 miles of the marathon course and starts with a scenic train ride. The Full Super Two-Fer combines the Saturday half and the Sunday full. The marathon time limit is 6.5 hours. Entry prices rise on a published schedule: the marathon with shuttle bus goes from $119 to $129 on November 29, 2026, then $139 from January 30, 2027 and $149 from February 27, 2027. The 2027 festival is on April 24 and 25.
