Limestone Race Weekend
The Lowdown
Limestone Race Weekend is Kingston, Ontario's largest annual running event, organized by the all-volunteer Kingston Road Runners Association (KRRA), founded in 1981. Held over two days each spring, the weekend combines four races: a Kids 2K, a 5K, the Waterfront 10K, and the Historic Half Marathon. The Saturday races start and finish near Kingston Penitentiary, with the 10K route passing the historic Rockwood Asylum and tracing trails along the Lake Ontario waterfront. On Sunday, the 5K and Half Marathon start and finish at Confederation Park across from Kingston City Hall, with the half marathon course notably running inside the grounds of the decommissioned Kingston Penitentiary -- a rare chance to run through a former maximum-security prison. All courses are paved and largely flat, suiting first-time half marathoners and families alike. The event regularly draws over 1,000 participants and most distances sell out, so early registration is recommended; there is no race-day sign-up. Proceeds support local charities, including the Boys and Girls Club South East and the Start2Finish Reading and Running Program.
