Maratón de Córdoba
The Lowdown
The Maratón de Córdoba, now branded as the NB 42K Córdoba under New Balance's Race Series sponsorship, is a growing marathon held each July in Argentina's second-largest city. The course starts and finishes at the iconic Estadio Mario Alberto Kempes — named after the legendary World Cup-winning striker — and routes through Córdoba's historic colonial center, past the National University campus at Ciudad Universitaria, the Río Suquía riverbank, Costanera, and through the green expanses of Parque Sarmiento. Set at approximately 430 meters above sea level with some challenging hilly sections through the city's neighborhoods, the course demands smart pacing that flat-course runners may find unfamiliar. Held on the city's founding anniversary weekend (453rd in 2026), the race has strong civic pride and attracts over 1,200 runners across all distances including 42K, 21K, 10K, and 5K. July is midwinter in Córdoba, bringing temperatures of 4-16°C — cold mornings that warm up as the race progresses. The city's colonial Jesuit architecture (a UNESCO World Heritage site), vibrant student culture, and legendary Argentine asado make it an excellent destination for runners seeking an authentic South American marathon experience. A medical certificate of fitness is mandatory for all participants, and registration is handled through Eventick and the New Balance Race Series platform. The event is inclusive, accommodating wheelchair participants and athletes with visual impairments.
