Maratón de la CDMX Telcel
The Lowdown
The Maratón de la Ciudad de México Telcel is one of Latin America's most prestigious marathons, holding World Athletics Gold Label status — the first Latin American marathon to achieve this distinction. The certified 42.195 km course starts at the historic Estadio Olímpico Universitario (host of the 1968 Olympics) and finishes at the Zócalo, one of the world's largest public squares. The route traverses Mexico City's most iconic avenues and neighborhoods including Paseo de la Reforma, Insurgentes, Polanco, Roma, Condesa, and Chapultepec. At 2,240 meters (7,349 ft) altitude, it is one of the highest-elevation major marathons in the world, presenting a unique physiological challenge. The course begins with a long descent before transitioning into hilly terrain between km 10-25, finishing with a flat stretch into the historic center. Over 30,000 runners from 60+ countries participate, alongside indigenous Rarámuri athletes. The race weekend includes an Expo Maratón, the Maratón de las Niñas y los Niños (kids race), the Rodada Maratón (cycling the route), and Corre con Causa charity entries.
