Maratón Bicentenario Tamaulipas

The Maratón Bicentenario Tamaulipas is the annual marathon of Matamoros, a border city in the northeastern Mexican state of Tamaulipas, organized by the state and municipal tourism secretariats with the promoter Bike and Run and the Mexican Athletics Federation. The race began in 2024 and moved to Matamoros in 2025; the 2026 edition, themed "200 Años de Matamoros" to mark the city's bicentennial, starts at 5:30 a.m. on Sunday, November 29, 2026. Alongside the individual marathon (42 km), the event offers a half marathon (21 km), 10 km, and 5 km, with a combined field capacity of 2,300 runners across all distances. Packet pickup and a race expo run the day before at the Nuevo Mundo venue. The 2025 edition drew more than 1,670 registered runners, up sharply from 870 the year before, with Kenyan runners Wilfred Nyatogo (2:21:56) and Leah Jebiwot Kigen winning the men's and women's marathons, backed by 550 security personnel along the route and roughly 80 community animation stations. Prize money for 2026 totals 268,000 pesos across all distances, plus a 10,000-peso bonus for the top Tamaulipas-born finishers. Registration is open now through Asdeporte, Márcate, and Bike and Run — online and at Innovasport stores and the Matamoros tourism office — with prices rising in phases before the November 27 cutoff.
