Maratona di Palermo
The Lowdown
The Maratona di Palermo (XXXI edition in 2026) is Sicily's flagship city marathon, run under the tagline "Per...corriamo l'arte!" ("Let's run through art"). The FIDAL-certified 42.195 km course loops through Palermo's historic center, passing the Teatro Massimo opera house, the Quattro Canti crossroads, Palermo Cathedral, Piazza Politeama, Viale della Libertà, the inner courtyard of the Norman Palace (Palazzo dei Normanni), Parco della Favorita, and the Chinese Pavilion (Palazzina Cinese), before finishing back in the city center. A half marathon (~21 km) and a 4x10.5 km relay run concurrently on the same course and start. Finishers receive free entry to Palermo's Archaeological Museum. The 2025 (30th) edition drew over 3,000 runners from roughly 50 countries. Registration for the marathon is handled online through the ENDU platform, closing on 15 October 2026, with entry prices rising in scheduled tiers as the race approaches.
