Newport Marathon
The Lowdown
The Newport Marathon is a USATF-certified marathon and half marathon on Oregon's central coast, starting and finishing near Yaquina Bay State Park in Newport. First run in 1999, it has built a reputation as one of the fastest, most reliable Boston Marathon qualifiers in the Pacific Northwest -- about 14% of 2024 full marathon finishers hit a BQ. The out-and-back course follows the Yaquina Bay estuary and passes beneath the landmark Yaquina Bay Bridge, staying nearly flat apart from a short rise of about 40 feet just past mile four that reappears near mile 26. Marathon walkers start at 6:00 a.m. and competitive runners at 7:00 a.m.; fields are capped at 500 marathon and 700 half marathon entries and typically sell out months in advance. Presented by Oregon Coast Bank, the race is organized as a nonprofit fundraiser supporting Newport High School athletics, with in-person packet pickup only on the Saturday before race day and no day-of registration. The 2026 edition ran on Sunday, May 31, 2026, with both the full and half marathon fields sold out; no 2027 date has been announced yet.
