Prague International Marathon
The Lowdown
The Prague International Marathon is one of the great city marathons of the world, earning its World Athletics Gold Label status through consistently fast times and an extraordinary scenic course through one of Europe's most beautiful capitals. Starting and finishing in the medieval Old Town Square beneath the famous Astronomical Clock, the route crosses the iconic Charles Bridge — a 14th-century Gothic masterpiece lined with baroque statues — and winds past Prague Castle, the Dancing House, and Wenceslas Square. Six bridges are crossed ten times along the Vltava River, and the largely flat course through cobblestoned streets and riverside paths has produced countless personal bests. Two-thirds of the approximately 6,000 marathon runners come from abroad, giving the event a remarkably international character with over 80 nationalities represented. RunCzech's professional organization is widely praised, with chip timing at every 5 km split and smooth logistics. Cool May temperatures of 10-19°C provide near-ideal racing conditions, and the city's affordable world-class beer, hearty cuisine, and vibrant nightlife make Prague one of the best marathon destinations in Europe for combining racing with a memorable city break.
