Savannah River Marathon
The Lowdown
The Savannah River Marathon is a small, community-run event hosted annually by the Augusta Run Club, offering marathon, half marathon, and 10K distances that all start and finish at the Sharon Jones Amphitheater in North Augusta, South Carolina. The route follows the North Augusta Greeneway, the River Levee Trail, and the Augusta Canal Trail, carrying runners back and forth across the Savannah River between North Augusta, South Carolina, and Augusta, Georgia. Along the way, the course passes rolling hills, riverfront views, and tree-lined paths, mixing flat riverside stretches with a handful of short climbs. Field size is capped at 275 runners across all three distances, giving the race a low-key, small-town feel with strong local support from the Augusta Run Club community. Runners who register by early October are guaranteed a race t-shirt, and every distance carries a 6-hour time limit. Age-group awards go to the top finishers in each category, from under-30 through 70-plus. Packet pickup happens the evening before the race at Savannah River Brewing Company in downtown Augusta, adding a social kickoff to race weekend. With its dual-state course and modest size, the Savannah River Marathon suits runners looking for a scenic, low-pressure race experience along the Savannah River corridor.
