Stadtwerke Lübeck Marathon
The Lowdown
The Stadtwerke Lübeck Marathon is the marathon of Lübeck, the UNESCO World Heritage Hanseatic city on Germany's Baltic coast, now in its 18th edition for 2026. Named for title sponsor Stadtwerke Lübeck, the city's public utility, the race has grown into one of northern Germany's largest running events, drawing a record field of more than 7,000 runners across all distances in 2025. The marathon starts and finishes at the Kohlmarkt beside Lübeck's historic Rathaus, with the finish line on Breite Straße in the heart of the Altstadt. The flat, fast course loops past the iconic Holstentor gate and through the brick-gabled medieval Old Town before following the Trave river out to the Baltic seaside resort of Travemünde, passing the four-masted museum ship Passat and the Travemünde lighthouse. Runners return through the 800-meter Herrentunnel, which dips 31 meters below sea level. About six aid stations along the marathon route supply water, electrolytes, gels, and fruit, and the event also offers a half marathon, 10K, 5K, 2K, a duo-marathon relay format, and a marathon team relay, making it a full weekend of racing for the whole family.
