Tallinn Marathon
The Lowdown
The Swedbank Tallinn Marathon takes runners on a single-lap tour through one of Europe's best-preserved medieval capitals, combining the charm of a UNESCO World Heritage city with a well-organized, AIMS-certified marathon course. Starting in the historic heart of the city near the iconic Tall Hermann Tower — which flies the Estonian flag from atop Toompea Hill — the route winds through six vibrant districts, past the baroque Kadriorg Palace and its surrounding parkland, along the scenic Pirita coastline on the Baltic Sea, and through the remarkably intact 13th-century Old Town walls for a dramatic final kilometer. The three-day event format spans from Friday kids' races through Saturday's 10K and half marathon to Sunday's full marathon, creating a genuine running festival. With roughly 2,300 marathon finishers and a growing international reputation, the race offers excellent value with group discounts for parties of 10 or more and reduced rates for seniors and youth. September's crisp autumn weather — typically 9-16°C — provides ideal racing conditions, and Tallinn's compact size, cobblestoned old town, and thriving food scene make it an increasingly popular marathon weekend destination.
