Turin Marathon
The Lowdown
The Turin Marathon is Italy's oldest city marathon, first run in 1987 as the Maratona di Torino Gran Premio La Stampa (with roots tracing back to a 1919-1933 Turin International Marathon). It moved from an April date to mid-November starting with the 2010 edition, where it remains today, coinciding with the city's Luci d'Artista light-installation festival. The event is currently branded Torino City Marathon under title sponsor FIAT (FIAT Torino City Marathon), and is FIDAL- and AIMS-certified. The flat, fast, largely traffic-closed oval course starts and finishes near Piazza Castello/Piazza San Carlo in the historic center, looping through the metropolitan municipalities of Moncalieri, Beinasco, and Nichelino before returning to the city, passing Savoy royal residences, the Lingotto complex, and other landmarks of Italy's first capital along the Po river.
