Windsor Waterfront Half Marathon
The Lowdown
The Windsor Waterfront Half Marathon is an out-and-back road race held along the Detroit River in Windsor, Ontario, paired each year with a companion 5K. The course closes Riverside Drive to traffic and runs past Festival Plaza, through the shaded streets of historic Sandwich Town, and underneath the Ambassador Bridge, with sightlines across the river to the Detroit skyline and the historic Hiram Walker distillery. The route is flat for most of its length, with a gentle downhill stretch into the finish at Festival Plaza. Aid stations appear roughly every 2 kilometers, and half marathon runners get water, Skratch Labs hydration mix, and energy chews on course; the 5K route offers water only. Finishers of both distances receive a custom event T-shirt and a commemorative 4-inch medal, and the race awards top overall and age-group finishers across 13 categories. Race weekend packet pickup runs from Thursday through Saturday at Walkerville Brewery, with no race-morning pickup available. Riverside Drive closes to vehicles by 5:30 a.m. on race day, so runners driving in are directed to parking garages and lots off the closed section. With a 4-hour cutoff for the half marathon and a flat, scenic waterfront course, the Windsor Waterfront Half Marathon is a popular choice for Southwestern Ontario runners looking for a fast finish close to home.
