Wizz Air Skopje Marathon
The Lowdown
The Wizz Air Skopje Marathon is North Macedonia's flagship road race, held each October in the capital, Skopje, and organized as a full marathon (42.195 km) alongside a half marathon, a marathon relay, and a 5K run. First staged in 1997, the race lapsed after two editions, returned as a half-marathon-only event in 2007, and was fully restored in 2008 with marathon, half marathon, and 5K categories; it has been a full member of the Association of International Marathons and Distance Races (AIMS) since 2009. The single-loop marathon course starts and finishes near Macedonia Square in the city center and is flat and fast, passing landmarks including the Stone Bridge and the Ilinden and Yané Sandanski boulevards. Wizz Air has been the event's title sponsor since 2014. The men's course record is 2:12:36, set by Kenya's Kiprotich Kirui in 2016, and the women's course record is 2:33:37, set by Kenya's Eunice Muchiri in 2019. The 2026 edition takes place on Sunday, October 4, 2026, with the marathon starting at 8:00 a.m.
