ABP Newport Wales Marathon
The Lowdown
Part of the ABP Newport Marathon Festival in South Wales, run alongside a half marathon, 10K and junior races on the same day each spring. The full marathon opens with a parade loop of Newport city centre, past the Victorian Market, High Street and Newport Castle, then heads north up Usk Way and Skinner Street before completing a wider loop through the International Sports Village (home to the Geraint Thomas National Velodrome), the medieval village of Redwick, the Newport Wetlands and Goldcliff, finishing back along Usk Way with the historic Transporter Bridge visible in the closing stages. Designed by Olympic marathon runner Steve Brace on a fully closed-road, marshalled route, it is Grade 1/IAAF Grade B-certified and has been ranked among Runner's World's fastest marathons in the world, with roughly 70% of finishers historically setting personal bests. ABP (Associated British Ports) is the title sponsor; the event is organized by Run 4 Wales (R4W). The 2025 edition sold out, and the 2026 edition has since taken place; this record covers the next running, on Sunday 18 April 2027, with a six-hour course time limit.
