Alexandria Marathon
The Lowdown
The Alexandria Marathon is Alexandria's largest annual road race, organized by the local running community Alex Runners and returning for its 2026 edition on November 6. The race starts and finishes at the iconic Bibliotheca Alexandrina and follows a flat, fast course along the Mediterranean corniche, passing landmarks including Qaitbay Citadel, Stanley Bridge, and Montaza Palace Gardens (the half-marathon turnaround point) before finishing back at the library. Seven distances are on offer: the 42.195km Marathon, 21.0975km Half-Marathon, 10K, 5K, a 2km Family Run, a 2km Youth Race, and a 500m Kids Race, drawing an expected field of more than 4,000 runners from over 30 countries. Race weekend includes an expo and bib collection at the Bibliotheca Alexandrina forecourt on November 4 and 5, with entry fees ranging from 9 EUR for the youth and kids races up to 31 EUR for the marathon and half-marathon. Online registration is open now through the official event's ticketing partner and closes November 1, 2026.
