Brisbane Marathon
The Lowdown
The Brisbane Marathon is the marathon distance of the Brisbane Marathon Festival, Queensland's flagship winter running weekend, held in Brisbane, Australia. First run in 1992, the event is organised by Atlas Events and has grown into a multi-distance festival (marathon, half marathon, 10K, 5K run, 5K walk and a 2K kids' race) that drew 2,377 marathon finishers in 2025 and participants from more than a dozen countries. The marathon starts on Margaret Street in Brisbane City, crosses the fully closed Story Bridge, and traces the Brisbane River through Kangaroo Point and New Farm before finishing inside the City Botanic Gardens. The AIMS/World Athletics-certified, predominantly flat course (293 m of elevation gain) is a Boston Marathon qualifier. The title sponsor has varied by distance and year — EVA Air currently backs the marathon, Rio Tinto the half marathon — so the event is best known simply as the Brisbane Marathon.
