Glendalough Lap of the Gap Marathon
The Lowdown
The Glendalough Lap of the Gap Marathon is Ireland's highest road marathon, run each May through the Wicklow Mountains National Park in County Wicklow. Organized by Glendalough Athletics Club since 2016, the race starts and finishes near the Brockagh Resource Centre in Laragh, beside the Glendalough monastic site, and climbs past Glenmacnass Waterfall, the Sally Gap and Lough Tay before looping back through the valley. A companion Glen to Glen Half Marathon covers roughly the second half of the course on the same morning. The marathon gains about 800 meters of elevation on narrow mountain roads closed to traffic, and organizers cap the field because of National Park road restrictions, so early entry is recommended. The 2027 edition, the event's 10th, is scheduled for Saturday, May 22, with the marathon starting at 7:30 AM and the half marathon at 8:00 AM. Entry is currently open at early-bird pricing, with fees rising closer to race day.
