Great Limerick Run
The Lowdown
The Great Limerick Run is Ireland's largest mass-participation road race outside Dublin, held on the May Bank Holiday weekend in Limerick, the country's third-largest city on the River Shannon. Runners choose from a full marathon, half marathon, 6-mile race, or marathon relay, all starting and finishing on closed city-centre streets between Pery Square and O'Connell Street. The full marathon and half marathon courses trace the Shannon's banks, pass through the University of Limerick campus, and swing by Thomond Stadium before returning downtown, while a Kids Fun Run and Fittest Company Challenge round out the weekend. Regeneron has been title sponsor since 2019, and the event has grown into the fastest-growing participatory race in Ireland, drawing more than 16,000 entrants in 2025 across all distances. Race pack collection runs the Saturday before race day, and online entry through EventMaster is the only way to register — there is no raceday sign-up.
