Hanoi Marathon
The Lowdown
The Hanoi Marathon is Vietnam's capital-city marathon, run on a loop course through the heart of old Hanoi. Founded in 2018 as the Hanoi International Heritage Marathon, it built a following quickly: VPBank signed on as title sponsor in 2019, and the race earned AIMS and World Athletics course certification that same year. Standard Chartered took over as title sponsor in 2024, and the November 2026 edition -- officially the Standard Chartered Hanoi Marathon Heritage Race -- is the third under that name and a member event of the Abbott World Marathon Majors Age Group Ranking System. The course threads Hoan Kiem Lake, the Old Quarter, the Ho Chi Minh Mausoleum complex, and the Temple of Literature; the 2026 route names Long Bien Bridge, the historic French-colonial-era span across the Red River, as its official heritage icon. Race weekend runs November 6-8, 2026, with the main event on Sunday, November 8, and roughly 18,000 domestic and international runners expected across the Marathon (42.2K), Half Marathon (21.1K), 10K, 5K, and a 2.1K Kids Dash. Hanoi in November sits in the city's dry, mild season -- a welcome change from the summer heat and humidity -- making it one of the more comfortable times of year to race through the capital's heritage sites.
