Hot Trot Half Marathon
The Lowdown
The Hot Trot Half Marathon is an August tradition around White Rock Lake in Dallas, organized by AMPT Running in memory of Richardson police officer David Sherrard, with proceeds benefiting the Assist the Officer Foundation. The USATF-certified Half Marathon, 10K, and 5K courses start and finish at Norbuck Park on N. Buckner Boulevard and stay mostly flat with only a few gentle rises along the lakeshore, run on asphalt and cement paths. A companion Memory Mile is an untimed 1-mile fun run open to all ages, and virtual options let remote runners complete the Half Marathon, 10K, or 5K on their own course. Race morning starts early to beat the Texas summer heat, with water stops roughly every 1.5 to 2 miles, Gatorade on course and at the finish, ice-cold towels, and popsicles waiting for finishers. Every finisher receives a medal and a gender-specific technical tank top, and the post-race party brings exhibitors, music, and food to Norbuck Park. The 2026 edition marked the race's 9th year on August 22; based on that annual mid-to-late-August cadence, the next edition is projected for August 2027, with registration expected to open on AMPT Running's site ahead of race day.
