Jersey City Marathon
The Lowdown
The Jersey City Marathon is New Jersey's flagship spring marathon, debuting in 2023 and quickly growing into the event widely recognized as the official marathon representing the state. Organized by the Jersey City Road Runners, the race starts and finishes in the Newport district of Jersey City and takes runners along the Hudson River waterfront with sweeping views of the Lower Manhattan skyline, Liberty State Park, and the city's culturally diverse neighborhoods. The USATF-certified and sanctioned course is a two-loop layout marketed as one of the fastest and flattest in the United States, and it serves as a Boston Marathon qualifier. The full marathon sold out for the first time in 2026, when roughly 10,000 runners from more than 50 countries took part across the marathon and half marathon. The event is backed by major sponsors including Goya Foods and RWJBarnabas Health / Jersey City Medical Center, with additional support from Dick's Sporting Goods, Gatorade, and The Westin Jersey City. A companion half marathon is run on the same morning.
