The Lowdown
The White River Marathon starts at Cotter Schools and finishes at Big Spring Park, with no common start and finish line. The course drops downhill for the first mile, then runs out and back along the White River; the marathon goes out, back to mile one, out again and back to the finish. The final two miles are compacted and fine gravel pathway and the rest is asphalt. Organizers report only 247 ft of total climbing with a net loss overall. Aid stations and portable toilets are about every two miles, and the field is limited to 800 participants. Half marathon and 5K races run the same morning, and the event also collects used shoes for recycling.
