The Lowdown

The Maui Marathon is one of the oldest marathons in the United States, first run in 1971 and now Hawaii's second-longest-running marathon after the Honolulu Marathon. Presented by The Westin Maui Resort & Spa Ka'anapali, the race starts and finishes on Ka'anapali Parkway across from Whalers Village in Ka'anapali, West Maui. The out-and-back course follows Honoapi'ilani Highway along the Pacific coastline through Lahaina to Papalaua Wayside Park and back, running within 50 feet of the ocean for much of the route. Runner's World has ranked the Maui Marathon among the Top 10 Most Scenic Marathons in the United States, and its flat profile makes it one of the fastest courses in Hawaii and a Boston Marathon qualifier. Race weekend also includes a Half Marathon, 10K, and 5K, plus virtual options, a Health & Fitness Expo, and reusable SpeedCup aid stations. The event holds added meaning for West Maui, as the course passes through Lahaina, still rebuilding after the August 2023 wildfires.
