The Lowdown

The Midwinter Halve Marathon Cadzand-Bad is an annual winter half marathon organized by athletics club AV de Wielingen in the Zeeland seaside resort of Cadzand-Bad, in the Netherlands' Zeeuws-Vlaanderen region. The 2027 edition, the 34th, is set for Sunday, February 7, with the half marathon starting at 11:30 from the Cadzand-Bad sports hall on Boulevard de Wielingen. Known locally as the SPAR Midwinter Halve Marathon Cadzand-Bad under its current title sponsor, the race has run every winter since the early 1990s and has grown into one of the Netherlands' best-attended midwinter road races, drawing roughly 1,200 finishers, near its capacity, for a record 33rd edition in January 2026, many of them crossing the border from Belgium. The 21.097 km course mixes paved roads, dune paths and two stretches of open beach along the North Sea, passing the 't Zwin nature reserve and the Verdronken Zwarte Polder, with a notorious dune staircase and constantly shifting footing that organizers describe as better suited to base training than personal bests. A shorter 5.6 km En Route 3 ZeeMijl and a 1 km children's run, the Kezandse Kilometer, take place alongside the half marathon on race day. Online registration for the half marathon opens November 11, 2026 and closes January 24, 2027, with race-day sign-up available at the sports hall from 9:30am.
