The Lowdown
The Mudgee Running Festival is a wine-country running weekend held on a Sunday in late August in Mudgee, New South Wales, with the marathon, half marathon, 10 km and 5 km all on the same morning. The marathon and half marathon start together at 7:00am on Church Street and split just out of town. The marathon heads out past Lowe Wines and up to a turnaround at the top of Lowes Peak Road, with a detour down School Lane on the way back, and about 5.7 km of the route is on the dirt of Tinja Lane. Finish is in Lawson Park, where Race Headquarters stands. Mornings are cold, around 1 degrees Celsius at the start, and the day can reach the mid 20s. Headphones are not allowed, except bone-conducting ones. The 2026 edition ran on 23 August; the 2027 date is projected from the fourth-Sunday cadence and has not been confirmed by the organizer.
