Novi Sad Marathon
The Lowdown
The Novi Sad Marathon returns to Serbia's second city on October 11, 2026, for its 34th edition — one of the longest continuously run marathons in the Balkans, with a history stretching back to the early 1990s. All distances start and finish at Trg Slobode (Freedom Square), the historic square at the heart of Novi Sad's pedestrian old town, before the marathon route heads out along the flat banks of the Danube River in Serbia's northern Vojvodina province. Runners pass beneath the walls of Petrovaradin Fortress across the water and loop through the city's leafy boulevards before returning to the square, with a five-hour time limit for the full 42.195 km distance. Alongside the marathon, the event weekend also offers a 25 km race, a 10.5 km race, a 5 km race, a marathon relay, and Nordic walking and children's events, drawing runners of all levels rather than just marathon specialists. The Novi Sad Marathon is a full member of AIMS (the Association of International Marathons and Distance Races) and open to entrants 18 and older for the full distance. Registration for foreign nationals runs on a rising price ladder through September 20, 2026. Novi Sad's compact, walkable center, Austro-Hungarian architecture, and lively café culture along the Danube make race weekend an easy, affordable base for a Balkan running trip.
