The Lowdown

The Hoag OC Marathon starts in front of the VEA Newport Beach resort, just south of Santa Barbara Drive, and finishes at the OC Fair and Event Center in Costa Mesa. The course runs through Newport Beach, Costa Mesa, Santa Ana and Irvine, with oceanfront views at the start and the Upper Newport Bay Estuary Reserve along the way. It is net downhill from start to finish, with three hills: one around mile 6.5 to 7, and the last at mile 14.5 over the 405 Freeway overpass. The course is certified and is a Boston qualifier. The time limit is 7 hours, and runners who have not reached mile 12 by 9 AM are diverted to the half marathon finish. The marathon runs on Sunday morning of a festival weekend that also includes a half marathon and a Saturday 5K. The marathon and half marathon sold out in early March 2026.
