The Lowdown

The State 47 Las Cruces Marathon is a USATF-certified, Boston-qualifying marathon run each January in Las Cruces, New Mexico, at roughly 3,900 feet elevation in the high desert of the Rio Grande valley. Organized by Wanderlust Running and named for New Mexico's 1912 status as the 47th U.S. state, the out-and-back course follows a mix of paved path, road, and light gravel trail through pecan orchards along the Rio Grande, with the Organ Mountains framing the route throughout. Elevation gain is minimal (about 174 feet), and January mornings are typically cool and dry, making the course a popular target for personal records and Boston-qualifying times; the race has been the RRCA Western Region Marathon Championship since 2023 and has sold out four years running, drawing runners from all 50 states and multiple countries. Race weekend also includes a USATF-certified Half Marathon, a 4-person relay, the 4.7K Jackrabbit Celebration Dash, and a 0.47-mile kids' Mini Dash, all starting and finishing at the Field of Dreams Stadium Track.
