Sunshine Coast Marathon
The Lowdown
The Sunshine Coast Marathon is a coastal running festival held each winter (early August) on Queensland's Sunshine Coast, with the start and finish at Alexandra Headlands Surf Life Saving Club near Mooloolaba. First run in 2012 and organised by Atlas Events, the festival has grown into one of Australia's most popular regional running weekends, drawing roughly 12,000 participants across five distances plus a large three-day expo. The full marathon is a fast, flat, largely one-loop course that hugs the Alexandra Headland, Mooloolaba and Maroochydore beachfronts, offering white-sand beaches and ocean views with on-course entertainment and a carpet finish line. The course is AIMS/IAAF-certified and accepted as a Boston Marathon qualifier, and includes a wheelchair division. The event's title sponsor has changed over the years (previously ASICS, and EVA Air for the 2026 edition), so it is best known simply as the Sunshine Coast Marathon.
