The Lowdown
The Tacoma City Marathon is the flagship event of the Tacoma City Marathon Association (TCMA), sending runners across the iconic Tacoma Narrows Bridge before winding through the old-growth forest and gardens of the 700-acre Point Defiance Park. The point-to-point course starts near Tacoma Narrows Airport in Gig Harbor, climbs through a hilly first 12 miles, then flattens into a fast waterfront finish along Ruston Way before ending at Dune Peninsula Park on Commencement Bay. Held the first weekend of May alongside a companion Half Marathon, 10K, 5K, marathon relay, and Kids 1K, the marathon is USATF-certified and a Boston Marathon qualifier. The weekend has become a gathering point for the Marathon Maniacs community, and runners are met at the finish with live music, food vendors, medical support, and views across Puget Sound toward Mount Rainier.
