Utrecht Marathon
The Lowdown
The Utrecht Marathon returned to the Dutch city of Utrecht on May 31, 2026, racing as the HiPRO Utrecht Marathon under a title sponsorship that dairy brand HiPRO (a Danone protein-drink label) signed in 2025 and extended through 2027. First held in 1978 as the U N Marathon, the event dropped its marathon distance between 1999 and 2004 before local organizers relaunched it as the Utrecht Marathon in 2005, and it has run every year since. The 2025 edition drew more than 18,500 runners across all distances, and the 2026 edition added the Dutch Half Marathon Championships (NK Halve Marathon) to the program alongside the full marathon, half marathon, 10K, youth Mini Marathon, corporate Business Runs, and the Utregse Studentenbokaal student competition. The course is flat and largely loop-based, with the start and finish at Utrecht Science Park and the route weaving through the historic city center, canal-side streets, and green residential corridors. Belgian runner Yannick van Hoof won the men's marathon in 2:34:22, edging Dutch runner Maarten Leon Mellema by two seconds, while Jasmijn Sibma won the women's race in 2:55:42; Bas van Hooren and Tineke Heuveling took the men's and women's Dutch Half Marathon Championship titles. Registration for the 2026 race sold out across the marathon, half marathon, and 10K well ahead of race day, though runners could still gain entry through the event's "Run Against Cancer" partnership with the Dutch Cancer Society (KWF), which granted a free race bib to anyone who raised at least €750 for cancer research. No date for a 2027 edition has been announced yet, though HiPRO's title sponsorship runs through that year.
