Wellington Marathon
The Lowdown
Wellington's favourite footrace since 1986, the Wellington Marathon (currently title-sponsored as the Gazley Volkswagen Wellington Marathon) is a flat, fast, out-and-back course starting and finishing at Hnry Stadium on the Fran Wilde Walkway. The Full Marathon route runs two laps along Wellington's scenic waterfront and harbour bays, passing Oriental Parade, Evans Bay Parade and Cobham Drive before returning to the stadium. In 2026 the Full Marathon doubled as the official Wellington Athletics Championship. The event is organised by MDJ Media & Events Ltd (event manager Michael Jacques) and draws 4,000+ entrants across the Full Marathon, Half Marathon, 10km and Kids' Magic Mile, with the Heart Foundation NZ as long-time official charity partner. Every finisher receives a medal.
