The Lowdown

The Yorkshire Marathon is a flat, fast, one-lap marathon starting and finishing at the University of York. The route winds through York's historic city centre, passing the iconic York Minster before heading out into the quiet countryside of the Vale of York. Organised by Jane Tomlinson's Run For All, the not-for-profit events company founded in the legacy of the late Yorkshire cancer campaigner and endurance athlete, all event profits support the Jane Tomlinson Appeal and its partner charities. First run in 2013 (over 3,800 finishers), the marathon has been long sponsored by the Asda Foundation ("Asda Foundation Yorkshire Marathon") and for 2026 carries a new title sponsorship as the "Altra Yorkshire Marathon." Note: this York-based race is a separate Run For All event from the Rob Burrow Leeds Marathon (also organised by Run For All, held in Leeds in May in tribute to the late rugby league player and MND campaigner) — the two are sometimes confused because of shared branding and organiser. The Yorkshire 10 Mile and a Yorkshire Marathon Relay run alongside the full marathon on the same day.
