The Lowdown

The Army Ten-Miler (ATM) is a 10-mile (16.1 km) road race held each October in the Washington, D.C. area, starting and finishing at the Pentagon in Arlington, Virginia. First run in 1985 by fitness officials on the Army Headquarters staff, the race has grown into the second-largest ten-mile event in the United States, trailing only Philadelphia's Broad Street Run, and regularly draws more than 30,000 runners. The USATF-certified course is mostly flat and takes runners past the U.S. Marine Corps War Memorial (Iwo Jima Memorial), across the Potomac River on Memorial Bridge, and along the National Mall past the Lincoln Memorial and other monuments before finishing back at the Pentagon. Race morning opens with a U.S. Army Golden Knights parachute team jump and the national anthem, and the event includes individual, team, wheelchair, and wounded-warrior divisions alongside a virtual race option that can be completed anywhere between October 11 and December 31. Proceeds benefit Soldier and Family Morale, Welfare and Recreation (MWR) programs, and deployed servicemembers take part through satellite 'shadow runs' at military installations worldwide. The 2026 edition marks the 42nd running of the race, on Sunday, October 11, with in-person packet pickup at the two-day Health & Fitness Expo in Springfield, Virginia.
