The Charlottesville Ten Miler is a 10-mile road race organized by the Charlottesville Track Club, held on a Saturday in late March. The 2027 edition starts at 7:15 AM on Carl Smith Way in front of Scott Stadium and finishes on the same street after a fast straightaway. The course loops through the University of Virginia grounds and Downtown Charlottesville, passing the UVA Rotunda and Chapel, the Downtown Mall, Court Square and the Coal Tower. It starts with downhill running and then climbs through the middle miles, including steep stretches on Grady Avenue and the climb up Lexington and Maple that local runners treat as the hardest part of the race. A long, gentle uphill on Water Street back toward Main Street tests tired legs late. The 2026 race had 2,245 finishers, and a virtual option is open for runners who cannot be there in person. Registration is tiered by date, rising from $65 in the early registration window to $75 in the final weeks. Finishers have 2.5 hours (15:00 per mile) before runners are asked to move to the sidewalks.
