The Lowdown
The Athens Ohio Marathon is Ohio's longest-running marathon, held every year since 1968 in uptown Athens. The race starts at South College and East Union streets beside Ohio University's College Green, joins the flat Hockhocking Adena Bikeway after 1.5 miles, and finishes on the track at Ohio University's Pruitt Field. Both the marathon and the half marathon, which began in 1994, are USATF certified, and the marathon is a Boston Marathon qualifier. Entry prices rise on a monthly schedule, and the marathon field is capped at 300 runners.
