The Lowdown
The Bautzener Silvesterlauf is a New Year's Eve road and forest-path race in Bautzen, in eastern Saxony, run on 31 December each year and now in its 59th edition. It is organized by the athletics club BLV Rot-Weiß 90 and starts at the Humboldthain. Runners choose 11.0 km (110 m of climbing, from age group JU16), 5.5 km (55 m of climbing, from KU12) or a 2.6 km run open to every age. Since 2026 the course follows forest paths along the sports grounds instead of the street by the gardens, and the two longer distances were rounded up from 10.8 and 5.4 km. The 11.0 and 5.5 km races start at 09:30 and the 2.6 km at 09:40. Every finisher receives a certificate with their time, the top three of each longer distance are honored, and aid is provided at the finish; bring your own cup.
