The Lowdown

Northern Ireland's largest mass-participation sporting event, held annually over the May bank holiday weekend since 1982. The AIMS-certified full marathon starts at Stormont Estate and finishes at Ormeau Park, taking runners through Belfast's city centre and surrounding neighbourhoods. Currently title-sponsored as the Phoenix Energy Belfast City Marathon (2027 edition); the event has run under several past title sponsors including Deep River Rock and Mash Direct. The weekend also includes a marathon team relay. The Belfast Half Marathon is a separate race held each September. The event draws roughly 15,000-18,000 participants across all weekend events, with several thousand running the full marathon.
